Inner Depths
This work is to encapsulate the idea of what it feels like to live alone, be away from that which makes one happy, and deal with one's own thoughts and feelings. This is done through camera work that exhibits my own personal experience with the idea of loneliness, anxiety, and depressive tendencies. The darkness of every shot encapsulates how the darkest corners of the mind can come out and envelop the rest of someone. By using different camera lenses, different exposure levels, and different depth of field settings on an iPhone 11 Pro Max these shots were captured to encapsulate the bare bone essence of what this all personally feels like. From being caught in emotional outbursts, to the feeling of being far away from the real me, to feeling like I'm drowning there's much to be seen in these photos. I just feel surrounded by myself, everywhere I look there's some piece of me laying around and it's mostly my reflection. In not showing the subjects face - my face - the work can be generalized to other people as well. They can see themselves in the photographs. The work aims to depict the internal struggles many of us face in a pandemic where going outside and seeing others is not safe. The work is done by documenting the feelings the photographer personally experiences through a creative photographical approach. It's meant to harness the dark to show the insides of the mind. It emphasizes that we may not feel like who we are when we are trapped in four walls constantly.
